Hapag-Lloyd Sets Savings on Gambia River Cruise

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' expedition ship, the Bremen, will travel for the first time down the Gambia River in October, following the route the Portuguese explorers took in the early 1900s. This is the second time a Hapag-Lloyd ship will travel over 186 miles upriver. The Bremen is the only cruise ship taking this route in 2007. Many cruise ships anchor in Banjul, but given the special construction of the Bremen, the ship can go further upriver into Gambia. This bilingual voyage will combine wildlife and culture and offers the chance to view indigenous birds as well as migrating birds from Europe. The 12-day voyage from Oct. 20-Nov. 1 begins in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, and ends in Senegal, Dakar. A guaranteed outside cabin in categories 1-4 is priced at $3,765 per person for a savings of 25 to 50 percent. Cabins will be assigned to guests shortly before the beginning of the cruise.
