Grand Circle profits increase
Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises, the leader in international small ship travel, today announced FY 2006 sales of $353.7 million compared with $314 million in sales in FY 2005--a 13% increase. The number of small ship passengers increased by 5% in FY 2006--from 82,800 passengers in FY 2005 to 87,000. With its fleet of 50+ small ships, Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises serves Grand Circle Corporation's two travel brands, Grand Circle Travel and Overseas Adventure Travel, by offering a diverse range of 40-plus overseas vacation choices.
"Small ship travel has become the #1 travel choice among Americans over 50," said Alan E. Lewis, Grand Circle's Chairman and CEO. "Grand Circle has been in business close to 50 years, and while other types of vacation have been popular, none has had the reaction that small ship travel has had. We've grown from one to more than 50 small ships in nine years, and despite such growth, we still can't keep up with demand. Our plans are to continue our small ship expansion, and we'll do so this year by launching a second ship in Russia and six new 50-passenger ships for the Adriatic, Aegean and E. Mediterranean, the first of which will launch this April."
