Found this article, seems Caymen Islands are to get a new artificial reef next year.

It takes a lot of work to prepare a ship to be sunk in an "ecologically friendly" fashion. However, nature can "clean it up". It just takes a lot longer and does some harm in the meantime. After almost 67 years, the USS Arizona is still slowly leaking oil.

Sure I remember watching a programme re one of these ships being sunk. Takes a lot of planning to actually get it to sink whole.

Correct, Middy. A ship does not drop straight to the bottom like a cube of metal would. The hydrodynamic design of the hull makes it want to "sail" even when fully submegred. But that's why the engineers earn the "big bucks", as we say in the USA. They can figure those things out on their computers and "pull the plug" at precisely the correct spot.
