This is a ten-year old ship and due for a refit this year (2007). We sailed on her immediately before Christmas 2006 (Southern Caribbean). As you are onboard now, I would appreciate hearing from you as to your overall experience, after you have returned home (unless you are online on the ship...). Thanks !

Does anyone know when the refit is due as we are sailing on Galaxy mid October?

From the various media/discussion forum/crew sources that I have read, Galaxy is not being overhaulled until 2008 at the earliest. However, there have been a few grumblings about the plumbing and that 2008 date could be brought forward. But with the newbuilds on order and the transfer of 2 ships into the fleet from Pullmantur that will need some upgrading/company identity refurbishments...the likelihood is that she will be done to the same standard as Century in 2008.

Default Galaxy Food and accomodation etc

Dear Forum,

the replies to the thread started by lady-bambi hasn't made me any wiser. A rehaul to whatever extent has IMO nothing to do with the question above. We are sailing on this ship in in February and it would be very useful to have some more extensive information.

Thanks beforehand.

Best regards

Hi guicklotta...welcome to CT. I'm not familiar with the Galaxy so I can't help you there, but there is a lot of info on the ship here on the site. If you have any specific questions, hopefully one of the other members will have more answers for you.

Hi all we have just returned from the galexy, and are in the process of obtaining our money back from Celebrity, reason being, Lovely crew members nice food excelent staff, cant say enough about them, only thing was whilst on board they decided to take up the floor area doing major refurbishment using high powered angle grinders drills sanders etc,the noise was a complete nightmare, you couldnt sunbath by the pool it was like a building site, we complained when onboard and was told by the pursers officer that in his opinion the ship should have been taken out of commisson whilst all this work was carrried out also in the dinning room at night the noise from the engine was so loude you could not even give your food order without shouting let alone converse with other guests, there was so many complaints from passangers, the staff couldnt cope and told everyone to take it up with Celebrity when they get home. sorry to dissapoint anyone who is going to sail on her in the near future, We have never experienced anything like this before and have travelled many times we would use celebrity again but this work should not have been done at our or passengers expence!!!.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Have to admit that we had some marked vibration at times in the dining room on Constellation ,especially when she was putting on a bit of speed. Have experienced this on other boats but not in dining rooms.

There are no published plans for a refit to Galaxy at all, yet, though speculation (possibly well-informed) is that there will be a major refit sometime in 2008. Therefore there won't be any interruption to currently scheduled cruises. What lady-bambi experienced is the normal, occasional ongoing work that does get done while the ship is in service. Galaxy is 10 years old, and therefore the number of jobs that need to be done is beginning to increase. I imagine that they were hoping that the decking would last until the refit. In the event it didn't, and it had to be replaced earlier. No cruise line would take a ship out of service just for a job such as that. It's unfortunate for those on-board on that particular cruise, but that's simply the way it is.

As regards the vibration, especially in the dining room, yes the C-class ships are known to suffer from this, especially if they're running fast. That's the down-side of having traditional propulsion units. The upside is that they have a very reliability rate! Contrast that with the record of the M-class ships, a number of whose passengers have been disappointed as a result of pod problems which pretty much always require a dry-dock to fix, which in turn results in cruises cancelled at the last minute.

I cruised on Galaxy last summer, and enjoyed it so much that I have booked again for this coming summer.

What a silly statement to make, I have been on many cruise ships and never experienced such noise whilst trying to sunbath, and for the whole 10 days!!!

As for taking the ship out of service that was in fact the Customer Relations Managers quote when we and neally all the other passengers complained! As for the evening dining, surely to be able to converse over the dinner table is not too much to ask for!

I hope your cruise this coming summer is better than I and many other passenger expericed and I hope that the major refurbishment works to the decks are finished, if not then I suppose you will understand what we feet like.
