Smile Third new ship for Celebrity Cruises to be named 'Celebrity Eclipse'

The third in a series of new ships has been ordered by Celebrity Cruises at a cost of $245,000 per berth.

The un-named vessel will be the latest in the line's Solstice Class of vessels and is due to enter service in summer 2010.

The first of the family of 118,000-ton ships - Celebrity Solstice - is expected to be delivered in autumn 2008, followed by the second - Celebrity Equinox - in summer 2009.

Each of the ships will have a capacity for 2,850 passengers offering larger standard cabins and a higher percentage of rooms with balconies, according to the line.

The ships are to be built at German yard Meyer Werft.

Celebrity chairman and CEo Richard Fain said: "Celebrity's Solstice class is more than a series of new ships; it's a new class introducing a new programme that will further differentiate and elevate the Celebrity brand."

Celebrity Cruises' third 118,000gt Solstice-class ship will be named Celebrity Eclipse. Delivering in 2010 from Meyer Werft it will follow sister ships Celebrity Solstice in 2008 and Celebrity Equinox in 2009, bringing the Celebrity Cruises fleet to 13 ships.

Like its sister ships, Celebrity Eclipse will have larger standard staterooms, 90% of which will be outside, and 85% of those will have verandas. The 2,850-guest ships will measure 1,033ft in length and 121 feet in width. German shipbuilder Meyer Werft will build the new tonnage.
