Lightbulb Liner Notes Premieres on Public Radio

Quote:
New Series Explores Travel through Literature, Painting, Film, Music and Myth

Valencia, CA - March 10, 2008 - Cunard Line is proud to bring to public radio, a new literary travel series that explores fascinating destinations and thought-provoking ways that travel can be experienced and enjoyed. Hosted by cultural Paul Holdengräber and recorded with notable and knowledgeable guests over lunch at the Captain’s table aboard Queen Mary 2, the series of themed, one-hour shows takes listeners on a journey of wit, wisdom and wanderlust, exploring destinations as they have been imagined and as they exist in literature, painting, film, music and myth. and wanderlust, exploring destinations as they have been imagined and as they exist in literature, painting, film, music and myth.

Debuting March 17, the premier show will focus on Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day and features Pulitzer-Prize-winning novelist Frank McCourt (Angela’s Ashes), as well as acclaimed, award-winning authors Colum McCann, Jimmy Breslin, Pete Hamill, Nuala O’Faolain and NPR film critic Bob Mondello, among others.

“Like the quest for adventure, Cunard guests are compelled to seek a diverse range of intellectual pursuits,” said Carol Marlow, president of Cunard Line. “Liner Notes further demonstrates an intuitive connection with our guests’ interests and intellect and delivers entertainment parallel to our award-winning onboard enrichment programmes. We are delighted to support this exciting new series,” added Marlow.

In the tradition of the legendary Algonquin Roundtable gatherings, the conversations will raise themes related to travel, for example “falling in love with a place” “the benefits of wandering” “lost in translation” and “ex-patriot dreams.” Interviews with travelers and locals will deepen the exploration of a place in fact and in fantasy.

Holdengräber, the series host, is the cultural all-star whose literary happenings have turned the New York Public Library into a popular hot spot, and whose public events at the Institute for Art and Cultures in Los Angeles are renowned.

Created by veteran public radio producers Jon Kalish and Marty Goldensohn, Liner Notes boasts a distinguished production team. With a multitude of locations and multitudinous perspectives, and a changing roster of brilliant and accomplished guests, Liner Notes promises to be a unique and welcome addition to the public radio tradition of travel shows, providing eight memorable monthly journeys of its own.
