Hello everyone, I am new to this site and think its great.
We are booked on the maiden world cruise on the Queen Victoria and boy am I excited! Have never cruised cunard before but know we will love it, this will be our 5th cruise and have 2 more to go on until Jan 2008.
Is there anyone else on this site going? would love to chat about it.
Being aboard the new Queen on her maiden cruise is fantastic I'm sure you will love her as from the promotional material about her, she really does sound exceptional....returning in many respects to the traditional Cunard of QE2 and the original Queens, QE and QM.
Hope you enjoy being here with us and that the cruise is everything that you could wish it to be

Thanks for the welcome Ally,
Its great to have a site like this where you can chat to people with the same passion as your own, nobody in my family/friend circle cruises and I seem to spend all my time trying to sell it to them (I should have been a travel agent!) but still they don't listen.
It certainly is exciting this cruising and I am well and truly hooked.
The QV does look great in the brochures and am sure she will be breathtaking,I will be writing a review on my return, may even use the net onboard to let you know how it's going.
Its very special being on a brand new ship. I spent a couple nights aboard Norwegian Jewel on a pre-inaugural cruise last year. There is something very nice about being the first to sleep in a bed and wander around the decks and so forth.
It can be alot of fun too as usually the crew are still learning about the ship and still getting their bearings...and occasionally things don't quite go according to plan, such as the tender winches on Jewel decided to go on strike and a very embarrassed chief engineer spent an hour or so trying to make them work infront of a growing audience, took a couple of sharp blows with a sledgehammer in the end
It's definately quite an experience, I am sure you will enjoy yourselves

I just read your review about the jewel, we are booked to go it on 6th Jan 07 eastern caribbean, she sounds very glitzy, have never been on NCL but looking forward to it, we chose her as she was visiting places we really wanted to see and reviews were good. At least she will have got over her teething problems!
She is a very nice ship. Too big for my liking, but then I am a small ship person. The colourschemes are very vibrant and very clever too, for example each stair tower is a different colour carpet and the carpet outside the cabin doors has tropical fish swimming along...they swim in the direction of the bow, regardless which side your cabin is. She doesn't have a multi deck atrium, she has a stunning glass light effect ceiling on a two deck atrium...she is very stylish and beautifully designed/laid out. Meals wise you can choose from 10 restaurants, most included in the cost of the cruise and a couple with a cover charge. I strongly recommend Le Bistro speciality restaurant, cover charge of $15 a head, food is exceptional and absolutely worth the extra. Freestyle isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you go with an open mind and are determined to enjoy yourselves, then I am sure you will enjoy Jewel

Although I would have loved to have been on the QV for the entire world cruise, unfortunately my husband and I cannot afford to. So instead I have booked us on the first leg - for the tandem crossing with the QE2. We are really excited - we've only ever been on the QE2 for mini cruises - hopefully another one this year if we get the chance. So maybe see you on the new girl in January 2008. Can't wait - just need to plan what else to do in NYC for a week. If any one has any ideas ??
Welcome to Cruising Talk Amanda. There is SO much to do in NYC, you wish you had more time than a week! Lots of sites to see of course. Take in a Broadway show, visit the Bronx Zoo, Liberty Island and of course the Empire State Building. Hope you enjoy your visit.
