I have heard thru many of the forums that X is changing its dress code after August 8.
Personally, I think it is about time. Formal nights are out of sinc with the changing times. Due to the fact that airlines are now surcharging for baggage, and the TA I'll be going on is 15 nights, and I'll be staying over in Italy for a couple of weeks, baggage becomes a problem.
I would suggest that X go to "Smart Casual." Men would wear slacks, (no denim or kakki,) sport shirt (tucked in) no T's, sport jacket. Shoes and socks, no sneakers or sandals. Women would wear skirts, slacks, blouses, no denim or kakki (is that how u spell it?)
This should make for a great cruise. You would wear the same thing you would wear to a good restaurant (not a problem???)
It would make things a lot simpler and easy.
If however, X doesn't change its policy, I'll just have to grin and bear it or go on another step-up cruise line like Princess, Cunard or Regent.
Crystal is really great, ONCE!!! too stuffy.
Ciao, Alberto

Hi alberto Carnival has changed to "elegant night" and I've not seen anyone who "made an effort" to look nice ever turned away. Is the dress code more strictly enforced on Celebrity. It's not easy to pack light, but it can be done.

It spells the end of our cruising with the MAIN line brands....we personally think this is a wrong decision...
Nice to see you again Joey, hope all is well with you & david
I have to admit to quite enjoying getting all togged up once or twice on a cruise...a little bit of tradition really
My last cruise had 3 formal nights and 4 cocktail parties and even on the informal nights people tended to be a little more dressy than usual, it was nice...even though the temps/humidity were way too high

This new policy will most likely be the reason we either up grade our cruising experience or heaven forbid quit cruising all together...
Once they talk the dressing up away from cruising we have no more fantasy left.... and at the end of the day fantasy is what cruising has been all about for us.. living if only for a couple weeks at a time in a way we don't the other 50 or so weeks a year....
Great to know that alls well with you both, you have been missed around here
My thoughts exactly Joey. I find getting all dressed up on a ship is a wonderful release from normal everyday stuff. I spend nigh on every day in jeans and t-shirt, so I think its special to be able to dress up for the evening...it evokes the traditions of the great ocean liners
I love it and I would hate to see it vanish completely...it would be a step too far IMHO.

I think there will always be formal nights on cruise ships Joey...even if they are not 'advertised' as such. Seasoned cruises and first timers alike will still dress up at least once or twice in a cruise...there are some traditions that won't go down without a fight
Those who wish to dress as they do at home...ie casually...well there are usually alternatives to the main diningroom to use
