Azamara drops next S. America season, world cruise

Azamara Cruises announced new itineraries for Azamara Journey beginning in the fall of 2008. The ship is dropping the South America program planned for December 2008 through March 2009 and will instead operate Panama Canal and Caribbean cruises.

Azamara also canceled the world cruise planned for 2010. The line said it would release its 2010 itineraries for both Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest in late March or early April.

For the remainder of this year, Azamara Journey will operate scheduled routes until Nov. 12, when it will undertake a new 12-night Western Mediterranean voyage round-trip from Barcelona. On Dec. 3, Azamara Journey will sail from Barcelona on a 15-night trans-Atlantic voyage ending in Miami, followed by two new 16-night Panama Canal sailings and a series of 12-night Caribbean cruises through March 2009. The ship will then redeploy to Europe.

The canceled South America program would have been the second in the region for Azamara Journey.
