Rostock, Germany - Business is booming for German cruise vessel operator Aida Cruises which has placed orders with the Meyer yard in Papenburg for another two vessels. These cruisers with 1,087 cabins each will begin operating in April 2011 and May 2012, increasing the current fleet of four ships to nine over the next few years. They will augment and be slightly larger than the Sphinx-Class ships already in the pipeline. The first of these, the Aidavita arrived last April.

The number of beds afloat offered by Aida Cruises will treble as a result, with 16,384 berths available by May 2012, the company announced at its headquarters in the east German city of Rostock.

Aida Cruises has detected plenty of growth potential in Germany for the cruise industry, said spokesman Hansjoerg Kunze. In addition to the Aidadiva, the company owns the vessels Aidaaura, Aidacara and Audavita which were placed into service between 1996 and 2003.
