Default Syros -shipyards

Hi

It looks from one of the attached photos that Louis Cruises, who own the Aegean Pearl, use Neorion Shipyard at Syros for a large amount of repair work on their ships.

In the first picture is their cruise ship ' Calypso ', and in the second picture, their cruise ship
' The Emerald ' .

The ships are in the floating drydocks at Syros.

Both of these ships are chartered by Thompson Cruises.

2009 will the last year that ' The Emerald ' is chartered by Thompsons.

Her furture use is not known !

Default Your Cruise

Hi Middy

If you mean you are sailing on the ' Calyspo ' I will be interested to hear how you get on.

She caught fire in the English Channel in May 2006, when on UK cruising, and was towed to Southampton for repairs. ( so take an extinguisher with you ! )

She is getting on in years having been built as an Italian ferry ' Canguro Verde ' in 1968 !

Both ' Calypso ' and ' The Emerald ' were with Regency Cruises before they went out of business

My second trip on Calypso. Sailed her last year. Had the most relaxing cruise ever Great that she is small enough to do Corinth canal. She may be old but we had a great time on her.

Default Corinth Canal

Hi

Pleased to hear you enjoyed your trip through the canal.

I went through the canal many years ago on a small Greek cruise ship named ' Melina ' which was on charter to Clarkson Holidays.

The ship was owned by the Greek Epirotiki company.

Clarksons also had the ' Delphi ' and ' Delos ' on charter at the same time

We flew with Court Line from Luton to Rimini and then went by coach to join the ' Melina ' at Ancona.

The fare was under £100.00p for an 11 night cruise !

Tonight Aegean Pearl is still at Syros.

Default Still At Shipyard

Hi

Aegean Pearl is still at the ship repair yard at Syros today.

It looks as if the repairs are taking longer than expected.

Default Delayed Still

Hi

I wonder if it is the insurance company for the Zenith, which hit Aegean Pearl, is covering the costs of the repairs plus the loss of her earnings.

If any of her lifeboats were badly damaged it could mean that they will have to be replaced with a new one !

There was other repair work to the decks mentioned and some required to the davits which hold the lifeboats..
