Aegean Pearl
Hi
Considering that ' Aegean Pearl ' is now 37 year old she appears to be in very good condition.
She was built as the ' Southward ' for NCL cruises in 1971 and was one of two ships they had ordered.
The other ship was to be named ' Seaward ' but the building costs rose and as a result NCL cancelled the order.
P & O took up the option for the uncompleted ship and she was finished to their design, by the Italian builders, as the ' Spirit of London ' in 1972.
The hulls were the same design from the outside but P & O went for a single funnel on their ship.
P & O operated the ' Spirit of London ' for seventeen years and re-named her ' Sun Princess ' when she was transfered to their Princess Cruises fleet in 1974.
She is also still sailing and after a spell in use as an accommodation ship at Noumea has recently been at Singapore for a re-fit.
She has had many names and owners, since P & O sold her.
She was named ' New Flamenco ' but that has been changed again and she is now named ' Flamenco 1 '.
