Default On The Move !

Hi

' Aegean Pearl ' sailed from the ship yard at Syros about 17.00 hrs local time today, Friday 8th August.

It may just be a trials trip as she has cruised round in a large circle off the port and has then done a figure of eight manouver.

To do this the ship is steered on a course in the shape of the figure 8 and will heel over quite a lot both ways !

It is a way of slowing down and stopping a ship, in the shortest possible time, ( Unless you hit something ! ) and brings the ship back to her original position.

It was known on the P & O ships as a ' Williamson Turn ' and we would do it if someone fell over the side and we liked them !

The ships rescue lifeboat could then be dropped into the water and recover them.

Why she has done this today is not known unless it is in connection with any repairs that were required !

Neil

Neil, you just confuzzled me completely (not hard, I know)...its still Friday

As for the water ballet from AP, I guess they were testing the steering...although if lifeboats got hit by Zenith, what that has to do with steering ability is beyond me completely

See...completely confuzzled now....

Default Aegean Pearl news

Hi Ally

Its that hair dye !

Its getting through your skin and damaging your brain !

Re Aegean Pearl, it looks as if it might be steering equipment that is being tested as for about the last three hours she has been running backwards and forwards at between 3 and 6 knots over much of the same course.

Default Good News

Hi

It looks as if that learner found out where he should be going !

Aegean Pearl left Syros about 03.00 hrs local time and has arrived back at Piraeus about 11.00 hrs local time.

Her speed on the route was shown at between 12 and 18 knots so it looks as if the repairs are complete and she will be returning to service shortly.

( Unless she hits anything while berthing ! )

Default At Piraeus

Hi

The chartered Louis Cruise ship Aegean Pearl remains at Piraeus today.

I expect there will be a large amount of fresh food to be taken on board, after having been out of service for repairs, plus the disposal of the food on board prior to her cruise being cancelled.

She is expect to sail tomorrow on her usual four day cruise for Golden Star cruises.

Default Off To Mykonos

Hi

The ' Aegean Pearl ' cleared the breakwater at Piraeus harbour, enroute to Mykonos, about 10.30 hrs this morning.

She was cruising at 17.4 knots, through the traffic seperation route, shortly afterwards so it looks as if her problems are sorted.

Also visiting Piraeus today was the Pullmantur cruise ship ' Zenith ' !

Default Aegean Pearl

Hi

The Aegean Pearl appears to be keeping to her schedule so it looks as if the repairs have been a success.
