Default Ais System On Ships

Hi

I do not know what the regulations are regarding the operating of this equipment when it is installed on ships but in some countries bordering the sea the service is not available although it is now starting to come in use world wide.

I think the quality and age of the equipment can affect the report from cruise ships as some of the Greek cruise ships that sail out from Piraeus every week vanish off the maps, when just outside the traffic seperation area, while others still show on the AIS maps when some way off the port.

For those who have not seen an AIS map the map below is from the area in the English Channel off of the Isle of Wight.

Ships shown in blue are passenger ships of the various types such as cruise ships or ferries.

In most cases these maps are updated ever few minutes.
